UTA INTERNATIONAL
Founded in 1982, UTA is a non-governmental organization with consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
With a strong track record of achievements, the UTA dedicates its activity to raising awareness towards international mechanisms for the protection of human rights, and to establishing solid foundations for the implementation of its strategy for achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
These foundations can be summarized as follows:
(a) Integration of the Goals into all aspects of the work of the United Nations system at the national, regional and global levels.
(b) Provide assistance to developing countries in drafting progress reports on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals.
(c) Collaborate with the Millennium Project and the Millennium Campaign to mobilize global support.
(d) Support advocacy efforts based on national strategies and national needs.
The UTA has been actively contributing to the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism since its establishment, and has achieved many successes in assisting States in fulfilling their international human rights obligations, and in implementing their voluntary commitments through its channels and its regional offices, that analyze various situations and issues, relating to Human Rights around the world.
The organization also has the power to investigate and report on various and ongoing cases.

THE UNITED TOWNS AGENCY FOR NORTH-SOUTH COOPERATION
International body responsible for the protection of Human Rights
UTA plays an important role in the United Nations system and affects the conduct of judicial proceedings on two levels:
First: by contributing to the development of international laws and by playing a leading role in their implementation.
Second: by monitoring the effectiveness of the principles and therefore taking the role of an operational tool.
The organization has the right to make recommendations and decisions related to the policies of the member states, to discuss the causes of the indigenous peoples, to interact with their organizations, and to offer help and advice on all matters pertaining to Human Rights.
UTA also works to promote a Human Rights perspectives in all areas, including development, peace, peacekeeping and humanitarian affairs.
UTA STRATEGY FOR THE DEFENSE OF HUMAN RIGHTS
In the quest for the protection of Human Rights, the UTA works on different axes of intervention, and according to different strategies:
- Monitor and document the commitment of authorities in different countries to respect and uphold universally recognized fundamental rights and freedoms.
- Request the creation and sending of investigative commissions to states that commit serious Human Rights violations.
- It exerts diplomatic pressure on governments through personal meetings and intervention on specific violations in order to improve the human
rights situation, particularly with regard to conditions of detention and treatment detainees before issuing warnings, and publishing reports on these issues.
- Organize global campaigns to raise global public awareness within the international community and demand effective action.
- Contribute to the work of international bodies, such as the United Nations Economic and Social Council, by providing written and oral reports and certificates.
- Develop the principles of Human Rights and International Law and find appropriate mechanisms to implement these principles, in addition to
urging governments to sign and ratify international conventions and treaties on human rights.
- Educate and sensitize the various societies on the subject of Human Rights, so that they may adopt them and consolidate their respect.
UTA REPORTS WITH DIFFERENT GOVERNMENTS
Its Human Rights mission requires the UTA to establish an ongoing relationship with authorities or governments in various countries, who are regarded as the direct perpetrators of transgressions and violations, and the main actors in their resolutions.
Thus, the UTA collaborates with a large number of countries to promote the legal protection of Human Rights. It also plays a positive and effective role in the development
of laws and judicial procedures. It plays an advisory role to governments in this area, in addition to its role in the following areas:
- Organize training courses for police services and armed forces of the country, on the respect human rights in the application of the law, and during armed conflicts.
- Organize training courses to influence multilateral diplomacy in order to strengthen global activity.
The role of the UTA is not limited to its status as an international organization for the defense of Human Rights. It also helps governments and regional actors in reporting on Millennium Development Goal indicators, and spreading them through coordination of compilation and analysis of these indicators; review of methodologies, and support to countries in collecting, analyzing and reporting data.
