His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Usman Nga-Kupi, the Sa’peyi of Garki is an educationist, administrator and the traditional ruler of Garki Chiefdom in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
He is a passionate ruler, a man of wisdom and great ideas. He believes in patience and perseverance, two great attributes needed in administration of chiefdom in a heterogeneous society, of people from diverse traditions and culture, local and foreign. He has used his revered position to contribute meaningfully to the unity, peace, progress and development of the Federal Capital Territory.
Alhaji Usman Nga-kupi, the custodian of the culture and tradition of his people ascended the throne of his fore-bearers in 1990. He holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Political Science from the University of Abuja and a Masters’ Degree in Public Administration from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.
He worked as Assistant Clerical Officer, Ministry of Health in the North-Western State, Assistant Pest Control Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture, Classroom Teacher and Head Master before ascending the throne as the Sa’peyi of Garki.
He occupies several important positions and belong to various organizations, including, member FCT Traditional Council; Member Board of Director, NCWS Community Bank; Member Board of Trustees, National Gbagyi Council and member Peace and Security Committee, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). He is also a member of Girl Child Education Committee, AMAC; member Nationalization and Citizenship Committee and member FCT Resettlement and Compensation Review Committee; as well as Patron National Association of Gbagyi Students.
His Royal Highness, Usman Nga-kupi has served in several Presidential and Ministerial Committees of both the Federal Government and the Federal Capital Territory. He was a member of the FCT Ministerial Sub-Committee on Covid-19. He also served as a member of FCT Ministerial Team for the assessment of the impact of flood in the Federal Capital Territory.
On account of his selfless service and outstanding leadership qualities he has been severally honoured with various laurels and doctorate degree awards from institutions of higher learning within and outside the country.
An educationist and scholar per excellence, Usman Nga-kupi has written and published several publications including, Population Gender of Garki Village; Research Project on Resettlement of FCT Indigenous People, the implication and prospects, etc.
Nga-kupi enjoys reading, traditional music, craft and farming.
